A predictable and cliched film: Skinned Deep critique.

Skinned Deep, an American Slasher film, directed by Gabriel Bartalos and released in 2004 should be highly recommended to lovers that love the horror genre. The Rockwell family becomes lost on the highway and ends being stranded with an eccentric family due to. This family consists of a mother and three sons, who go by the names Brain, Plates, and Surgeon General (Jason Dugre and Warwick Davis respectively) (Kurt Carley). As the story unfolds it becomes clear that the family is engaged in illegal activities and poses a risk to the Rockwells. The revelation is no surprise.

Skinned Deep is an unforgettable horror film due to its over-the-top set pieces, funny moments, and its lightning-fast cutting. The humor and speed of the film were lauded by the reviewer from Variety, Dennis Harvey, who described the film as "funny and extremely repetitive." Yet, Steve Barton of Dread Central gave the film 2.5 stars, noting the overuse of outdated cliches and boring narrative as factors behind his rating. Due to the special effects, its aesthetic that evokes the 1980s, and its frantic pace, Ryan Larson of Bloody Disgusting identified it as "one of the most completely silly horror films released in the 2000s."



The tiny budget that the film had was not going to stop Bartalos from creating a thriller movie that was reminiscent of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes. Instead, he came up with one that combines science fiction and slasher that's totally unintelligible, plus it's completely off the wall. The fact that Bartalos had prior experience working on effects of well-known horror films like "Frankenhooker" along with "Brain Damage" prior to his involvement in "Skinned Deep" is evidence of his love for the absurd.

Skinned Deep is a good choice for horror lovers who want something new to watch despite its low budget and dated special effects, that might turn off certain viewers.
